The 27-hole golf course was designed by A. W. Tillinghast in 1929, and the clubhouse was designed by Clifford Wendehack. The greens are seeded with poa annua and bentgrass, and its fairways and tees are seeded with poa annua, bentgrass, and ryegrass. It was certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 1996. Since 2000, RCC has worked with architect Gil Hanse to restore the course back to its Tillinghast roots.Among the improvements have been the construction of 48 new or rebuilt tees, a new irrigation system, a new Greens and Grounds complex, an expansion of the pond on hole #1 on the Center nine, extensive drainage and the rebuilding of all the bunkers back to their original Tillinghast design. The three challenging and scenic nines are known as Center, West, and East, referring to their location relative to the clubhouse.

Golf legend Byron Nelson worked as an assistant professional at the club in the mid-1930s, early in his career and represented Ridgewood for several of his early significant victories. Inverness is considered a classic Donald Ross design. In truth, it's one of his best remodeling jobs. Some Ross fans were outraged when the course was radically altered by George and Tom Fazio in preparation for the 1979 U.S. Open. Created by architect Perry Maxwell on the heels of his work at No. 27 Prairie Dunes and No. 34 Southern Hills, Old Town Club was surprisingly unique, and included perhaps Maxwell's only surviving double green. When Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw were hired to address the bunkering at Old Town, they opted not to reproduce the original bunkers (some of which were enormous) but rather emulate their gnarly shapes, edges and vegetation in places where bunkers naturally fit. Lots of trees had already been removed, but the architects convinced the club to get rid of even more. Now, a single swath of fairway connects the seventh, eighth, ninth, 17th and 18th holes. Very unique.

Using company engineers and construction equipment, and guidance by veteran tour pros Johnny Pott and Dow Finsterwald, they spent almost a decade creating Pikewood National. Many of golf's greatest players have played Broadmoor. On the men's side Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Fred Couples have challenged the course. We've also hosted many women greats including Nancy Lopez, Babe Zaharias, and Betsy Rawls.

Broadmoor has hosted a number of nationally recognized tournaments including the Seattle Open in 1945, 1961, and 1964 which drew the sport's top players. Lord Byron Nelson won in 1945, Miller Barber won in 1961 (with a hole-in-one on #7), and Billy Casper won in 1964.

In 1952, the Women's Weathervane Tournament was held at Broadmoor with Betsy Rawls the winner. Broadmoor's own Ann Quast Sander began what became a championship laden amateur career as a teenager in this tournament. Ann went on to win the USGA's Women's Amateur Championship in 1956, 1961 and 1963. She is the only person to win that many amateur championships. She was also the runner up in 1965, 1968 and 1974. She played on six Curtis Cup teams and was the Women's Western Amateur Champion in 1956 and 1961.

In 1982, Edean Ihlanfeldt won the National Senior Women's tournament and was Washington State Women's Champion in 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1975. Jim Frost was the USGA Senior Open Low Amateur medalist 5 times, the Senior Masters Champion in 1989 and the US Senior Champion in 1990 and 1994.

Other nationally recognized tournaments hosted by Broadmoor include the Western Amateur Championship in 1954, the USGA Girl's Junior Championship in 1961, and the USGA Women's National Amateur Championships in 1974 and 1984 and the 1996 US Senior Women's Amateur tournament. In 1999, Broadmoor hosted the Men's Pac 10 Championship won by Paul Casey. He shot 60 in his final round of this event which remains the Broadmoor course record for men.

In 2007, Broadmoor hosted the Pac Ten Women's Championship which was won by UCLA''s Tiffany Joh, with ASU's Anna Nordqvist placing second. Both are LPGA professionals. During this event, Anna shot 68 which remains the Broadmoor course record for women.

The Golf Club (ranked #48 in the world and always in the top 100 in the US) is probably the highest ranked golf course in the United States that you never heard of, and never will (until now). The course was designed by Pete Dye in 1967. and remains one of Pete's finest creations and epitomizes what the game of golf is all about.

William Watson deserves the credit for laying out the holes that are the backbone of today's course, though the club historian notes that Donald Ross "gave freely of his advice in its development." The two Scots were surely bewitched by the opportunity to work on this roly-poly landscape. The view from the 1st tee of the 18 foot-deep green side bunker tells you this is going to be different, though nothing really prepares you for such a one-off hole as the elegant 12th with its long fallaway green. A course can measure 6,500 yards and still make the Top 100 but it needs both awesome land and architecture, which this course enjoys in spades. White Bear Yacht Club is currently ranked #76 on Golf Magazines Top 100 list.

Oak Tree National was originally the men's-only Oak Tree Golf Club, with 18 holes patterned after previous Dye designs (the par-3 eighth, for example, was a close cousin to his 17th at Harbour Town, complete with a basket trap on the back left). It has long been considered one of Pete Dye's sternest tests of golf, a hilly layout with numerous water hazards and deep bunkers protecting some very tiny greens, as well as gusting Oklahoma winds and gnarly Bermuda grass rough.

It's been a PGA Tour Champions fixture in recent years, hosting the 2006 Senior PGA Championship and the 2014 Senior U.S. Open.

Crooked Stick is the course where Pete Dye became Pete Dye. Conceived following an extended tour of British courses, Pete founded Crooked Stick, located the land, raised the funds and designed the course, rejecting conventional golf holes in favor of radical ones, using bulkheads of vertical telephone poles to create abrupt change and long expanses of sand to emulate dunes. What's more, he built it himself, pressing even his wife, Alice, and young sons Perry and P.B. into construction work. They opened the back nine first, in 1965, with Mackenzie-style boomerang greens; the front nine came two years later, with lines and angles appropriated from Donald Ross. Crooked Stick was the first Dye course to host a major championship, the 1991 PGA Championship.

The Rockaway Hunting Club 18 Hole championship Golf Course measures 6,251 yards. It was constructed in 1900 by T. Bendelow, golf course architect, and was redesigned by Albert T. Tillinghast in the mid-1920s. In traditional Scottish Links design, the course is relatively flat with 5 natural water holes. Shifting winds make club selection difficult and shot-making accuracy is of greater importance than length. The par 4, 454 yard 9th hole is regarded as one of the 100 best golf holes in America. Prairie Dunes was the top nine-hole course in America for 20 years. By the time the club found funds to expand it to 18; original architect Perry Maxwell had passed away, but his son Press was able to add nine more holes seamlessly; putting three on the front nine and six on the back. He also replicated his father's great greens; which seem to break in three different directions. Prairie Dunes reflects all that is common in rural Kansas: sand dunes; prairie grasses; yucca plants; cottonwoods and constant wind.

With much of the course hard against the Milwaukee River and several holes subject to flooding (the green of the 12th and the entire 13th are located across the river), one might think Milwaukee Country Club is a flat layout. But many of its holes are surprisingly hilly. Its classic design is still tree-lined, but one of the crucial improvements recently made by consulting architect Tom Doak and his associate Don Placek was to remove many trees to open up views of the river from upland holes.

The Lower course has had famous matchups that include George Von Elm defeating Bobby Jones in the 1926 U.S. Amateur, Jack Nicklaus' 1967 and 1980 U.S. Open victories, and Phil Mickelson's win at Baltusrol first effort to host the PGA Championship. The historic grounds feature one of golf's finest clubhouses on a beautiful tree-lined property. When you play Baltusrol you know exactly why the course has hosted so many national championships. St. George's Golf & Country Club is located on Long Island in Setauket, New York. It was the home club of and designed by Devereux Emmet in 1917 as a response to his close friend C.B. Macdonald opening the National Golf Links of America in 1911. Nearly 100 years later, Gil Hanse put together a master plan which continues to be implemented today.

St. George's is currently ranked 18th best in state for New York and 42nd for best course in the 13-state Northeast Region in Golf Magazine; and ranks 81st on Golfweek's list of Top 100 Classic Courses.

The Philadelphia Cricket Club is the oldest country club in the U.S. having been founded in 1854. The jewel of the club's three courses is the Wissahickon Course. Wissahickon opened in 1922 and was designed by A.W. Tillinghast. In fact, Cricket Club was Tillinghast's home course, and his ashes were spread over Wissahickon Creek. Wissahickon received a substantial restoration in 2013-2014 by Keith Foster.

Following the restoration, the course hosted the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship; 2016 Senior Constellation Players Championship; 2017 Philadelphia Amateur; 2019 NCAA Big 10 Men's Conference Championship; and last year was due to host the USGA Men's Four-Ball Championship before being cancelled due to Covid-19.

Though it contained a classic collection of Raynor favorites, including a Road Hole, a Biarritz, a Redan and even a Prize Dogleg (based on an entry from a 1914 magazine design contest), Yeamans Hall suffered from benign neglect for 50 years, with bunkers overgrown and greens both shrunk by mowing habits and mushroomed by topdressing. But in the later 1980s, the course superintendent discovered Raynor's original plans in the clubhouse attic. Architect Tom Doak and his then-associate Jim Urbina used the plans to faithfully restore Raynor features. Urbina continues to implement restoration touches. Located in Hanahan, South Carolina.

Like No. 40 Pikewood National, Pete Dye Golf Club is a 100 Greatest course built atop a West Virginia mining deposit, but in this case, it's an active coal mine. (The club's original name was Coal Ridge.) Evidence of that fact is everywhere, from the strip-mine wall along the par-5 eighth and the black cinder bunkers on the par-4 sixth to the abandoned coal train that curls around the outside of the dogleg on the 10th. There's even a coal mine shaft you can walk through to reach the seventh tee. Construction took so long that Dye's style had evolved by the time the full 18 was finally seeded. Early holes sport the railroad-tie motif of Oak Tree National while later holes feature the echo-chamber bunkering of Whistling Straits.
